dkaven@gvc.edu Professor Dennis Kaven is a thirty-eight year member of the Grand View Department of Art & Design. In his tenure with the college, he has provided leadership for the development of the department's degree programs . Kaven is also a practicing artist, as are all other members of the art instruction faculty, who practice what they preach. This combination of artist and teacher brings to the art students at Grand View a practical application of both theory and know how. Theory is essential for student development but a teacher who can do and show is yet another defining element in directing student in their search for the answers to visual problems. Students in the painting and design classes taught by Kaven have had success in learning the basic mechanics of paint application as well as caring that structure to work that explores media and concept. Kaven's personal art work is in many corporate and private collection . As a painter his work has covered a broad spectrum of subject and style. Much of the earlier work was realism with attention given to detail and tradition composition. The painting subjects of much of his recent work is varied but design principles support much of the newer compositions. An underlying frame work of linear construction works together with all the variety of subjects that the artist chooses to employ. |
